Back in 2024, TMRW Magazine published an article “Numbskull Was Never Meant To Be A Business.”
The goal has not changed.
We never want to become some giant corporate machine trying to squeeze money out of a culture we don’t even live. We built this because we are the culture. We ride. We crash. We learn. We travel. We meet people through these sports that become lifelong friends.
Numbskull exists to keep that feeling alive.
There's a common misconception that “extreme sports” are only for a certain type of person. The people who started at age 5, people pushing for sponsors, people with unlimited money, people with no fear.
That’s bullshit.
A lot of us picked these sports up as broke adults.
That’s what makes them so special.
Some people were lucky enough to grow up snowboarding, riding BMX, skating, surfing, or racing dirt bikes. But for a lot of us, these sports were just missing from childhood. Then one day we tried them and realized: this was the feeling we’d been looking for the whole time.
Take mountain biking.
Most of us learned how to ride a bike as kids. Then years later, taking that same basic skill into the mountains suddenly unlocked something that feels different from all other sports. The adrenaline, the focus, the progression, the creativity, the serenity, the mental reset. They're addicting in the best ways possible.
Same with moto and dirt bikes, skiing and boarding, surfing and skating. They all connect. And they all inspire.
Different boards. Different wheels. Different terrain. Same mindset.
That’s why these sports naturally bring likeminded people together. The type who wants to explore, create, progress, laugh, crash, get back up, and spend time outside with good humans.
And the cool part is that nobody really cares if you’re brand new.
In fact, we're usually more stoked. The seasoned riders help the beginners. The beginners bring fresh energy. The groms are always gonna push style and progression in insane ways, but at the end of the day, all of it just makes you feel like a kid again.
That’s the whole point.
This is a lifestyle. Not a trend.
And we want everyone to feel comfortable being part of it.
No gatekeeping. No pretending you need to be “good enough” before you belong.
You belong because you showed up.
We still believe what we said years ago: we want to make money to build the community, not a soulless company. Every dollar goes back into keeping this movement alive, supporting community and athletes around it, creating experiences, making gear we actually believe in, and helping more people discover these sports.
We’re not trying to be some fake action sports brand built in a boardroom.
We live this. We breathe this. That’s why we built a business around it. The culture keeps ripping. Everyone belongs.
There are no rules.
Just have fun.
And be nice to everybody.
Thanks for being a part of it.
Sincerely, Your friends at Numbskull :)
